Travyon Martin's mother, Sybrina Fulton, testified against 'Stand Your Ground' laws at a Senate hearing on Tuesday.

Fulton claims that George Zimmerman, the man who killed her 17 year old son, exploited a controversial law that 'creates many opportunities for people to commit terrible acts of violence and evade justice."

Fulton and her ex-husband, Tracy Martin, have spoken against the controversial law since their son's death in February of 2012.

"Trayvon was minding his own business. He wasn't looking for any type of trouble. He wasn't committing any crimes and that's important to remember, " she said. "What kind of messages are we sending if our kids don't feel safe, don't feel safe simply walking to the store to get a candy and a drink?"

Lucia McBath, the mother of murder victim Jordan Davis, also testified at the hearing.

President Obama acknowledged online healthcare glitches on Monday.

"Nobody is madder than me about the fact that the website is not working as well as it should, which means it's gonna get fixed," Obama said.

Americans have been having trouble logging into the website, Healthcare.gov, since October 1.

The President emphasized that healthcare reform is "more than a website' and claims that people are working 24/7 to address the issues.

"I just want to remind everybody, we did not wage a long and continuous battle just around a website," he said. "The product is good. The health insurance that is being provided is good. It's high quality, and it's affordable."

The White House says that over 19 million people have visited the healthcare website and at least 500,000 people have applied for health insurance.

Lorraine Miller was named interim President and CEO of the NAACP on Monday.

Miller will take over from Benjamin Todd Jealous, who resigned earlier this year after serving 5 years as president.

"Lorraine is a natural fit as interim president of the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization," Jealous said. "She comes into this position with two decades of experience working for the U.S House of Representatives and an even longer career in civil rights advocacy and policy. She will have the honor of leading the dynamic staff of this great organization. "

Miller, a commercial real estate broker, is the first woman to serve as president for the 104 year old organization.

"I am honored to have been selected for this venerable role," Miller said in a statement. "I look forward to continuing the path forged by Chairman Brock and President Jealous in the months ahead. These are important times, and the important work of the NAACP will go on."

Kenyan officials believe that two charred bodies recovered from the Westgate Mall are those of gunmen who killed several people last month.

"All indications are that they are the attackers," Parliament official Ndung'u Gethenji told Reuters. "The area they were excavating is consistent with the area (the gunmen) were trapped in during the operation."

Newly released CCTV footage, depicting the first day of the tragic standoff, show four gunmen casually shooting at panicking customers.

Norway believes that a Norwegian citizen played a role in the attack. BBC identified 23 year old Norwegian Hawaan Abdi Dhuhulow as one of the gunmen.

Both corpses are expected to undergo intense forensic investigation.

Harry Belafonte sued the estate of Martin Luther King Jr. on Tuesday.

The lawsuit is an attempt to receive documents the legendary singer claims that he secured through his relationship with the late civil rights leader.

"Dr. King was a regular guest at Mr. Belafonte's Manhattan apartment: he worked, socialized and rested there," the suit says. "Not surprisingly, during their long time together, Mr. Belafonte came to own documents associated with Dr. King and his widow."

The documents, in question, include King's 1967 speech against Vietnam, notes from an undelivered speech that King carried when he was assassinated, and a condolence letter that then-President Lyndon Johnson sent to King's wife, Coretta Scott King.

According to the lawsuit, Belafonte attempted to auction the items in 2008 before being blocked by the MLK estate.

The auction company, Sotheby's Inc., has held the items and is waiting for a resolution between both parties.

Belafonte believes the items are worth more than $1.3 million and hopes to donate the proceeds to charity.

A pan-African magazine claims that Africa has over 50 billionaires, who are worth more than $143 billion.

Uzodinma Iweala, Editor-in-chief of Ventures Africa, notes that the claim is a 'conservative one.'

The magazine listed the average worth of the continent's billionaires at $2.6 billion with an average age of 65.

Last month, Forbes Magazine missed the mark with their report on 16 African billionaires.

"I think being more rigorous and being closer to the ground makes it easier to figure out a continent where information is not readily available and things are not as transparent," Iweala told the Associated Press.

Iweala  was excited about discovering wealthy Africans and believes that their success will bring major change to the developing continent.

"As people have more and more money, we're seeing more and more foundations putting money back and in a more structured way," he said.

Stevie Wonder is putting his foot down!

The legendary singer is refusing to perform in the State of Florida until it abolishes its' Stand Your Ground Law.

George Zimmerman, the man who fatally shot Trayvon Martin and claimed self defense under the controversial law, was recently acquitted on all charges sparking outrage across the United States.

Wonder announced his decision to boycott in Quebec City, Canada on Sunday.

"The truth is that —  for those that we have lost in the battle for justice, wherever that fits in any part of the world — we can't bring them back," he said. "What we can do is we can let out voices be heard. And we can vote in our various countries throughout the world for change and equality for everybody. That's what I know we can do."

Rapper Young Jeezy released a Trayvon Martin tribute, titled 'It's a Cole World,' hours after George Zimmerman was acquitted for the 17 year old's tragic death.

"I am in no way shape, form, or fashion trying to capitalize off of the latest series of events," he said. "These are my true feelings and my form of expression about it."

 George Zimmerman, the man who was found not guilty on all charges concerning the death of Trayvon Martin, is not off the hook – yet.

 The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating the death of Trayvon Martin to determine whether to file criminal civil rights charges against George Zimmerman.

 "Experienced federal prosecutors will determine whether the evidence reveals a prosecutable violation of crime of the limited civil rights statutes within our jurisdiction, and whether federal prosecution is appropriate in accordance within the Department's policy governing successive federal prosecution following a state trial," said a statement released by the DOJ.

 The NAACP backed the decision by creating a petition encouraging the Justice Department to open a civil rights case against Zimmerman.

 "The most fundamental of civil rights – the right to life – was violated the night George Zimmerman stalked and took the life of Trayvon Marin. We ask that the Department of Justice file civil right charges against Mr. Zimmerman for this egregious violation," the petition stated.

 Over 100,000 people have signed the petition to date.

Paula Deen admitted to using the N-word in a lawsuit deposition.

The celebrity chef is being sued by Former Restaurant Manager Lisa T. Jackson who claims that Deen committed acts of violence, racism, and discrimination.

A statue honoring Frederick Douglass was unveiled in the U.S capital on Wednesday.

Douglass was a former slave who became a leading abolitionist, author, and statesman.

"It's right and fitting that Frederick Douglass, this extraordinary man, this unflinching voice for freedom, this unyielding advocate for justice should be honored with an enduring movement," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

The dedication ceremony, organized by House Speaker John Boehner, was attended by descendants of Frederick Douglass, members of Congress, and Vice President Joe Biden.

Hollywood stars are demanding a 'world without nuclear weapons in a new video.

The video, produced by Global Zero, features celebrities like Whoopi Goldberg, Morgan Freeman and Christoph Waltz.

Nelson Mandela is continuing to improve after being hospitalized for a recurring lung infection, says current South African President Jacob Zuma.

"We are grateful that he continues to get better," Zuma said. "Over the last two days, although he remains serious, his doctors have stated that his improvement has been sustained."

The Former South African President was admitted to a Pretoria hospital on June 8.

It is his fourth hospital stay since December , leaving many to believe that he may be nearing the end of his legendary life.

Mandela will celebrate his 95th birthday next month.

George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch captain who fatally shot 17 year old Trayvon Martin, is finally going to trial.

"We are relieved that the trial is starting and that we will be able to seek justice for Trayvon." said Tracy Martin.

Tracy's son , Trayvon, was killed on Febrary 26, 2012 after being spotted by Zimmerman on his way home.

While both sides agree that Zimmerman killed the unarmed teen, his motive for the murder is up for debate.

Zimmerman's team claim that neighborhood watch captain was acting in self-defense.

Prosecutors believe that Zimmerman racially profiled the teen and ignored orders to leave the scene.

If Zimmerman is charged with second degree murder, he will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Former South African President Nelson Mandela is still in the hospital after being admitted for a recurring lung infection.

Mandela was rushed to the hospital on Saturday and was in a 'stable but serious condition.'

The longtime activist has spent a great deal of time in the hospital over the last few years.

Many South Africans believe it's time to let him go.

"Once the family releases him, the people of South Africa will follow. We will say thank you, God, you have given us this man, and we will release him, " said South African Activist Andrew Mlangeni.

Mandela is 94.

Oprah Winfrey gave an inspiring commencement at Harvard University on Friday.

The 'Real Bronx Tour' advertised a 'ride through a real New York City Ghetto' for $45.

Olga Luz Triado, executive director of the Bronx Tourism Council, was shocked when she learned that the tour featured soup kitchens and public houses.

"We are more than happy to welcome tours to our community that celebrate the rich culture and history of our neighborhoods, but using the Bronx to sell a so-called 'ghetto' experience to tourists is completely unacceptable." said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.

Bronx residents have grown tired of outsiders trying to 'ghettoize' them and are creating their own campaign called 'Bronx Rising.'

The Boy Scouts of America are ready to vote on their controversial Gay Ban.

Officials have gathered in Grapevine, Texas for a three day meeting before voting on a resolution that would allow Gay Boy Scouts.

BSA President Wayne Perry encouraged voters to approve the resolution in a piece for the USA Today.

"Parents, adults in the scouting community, and teens alike tend to agree that youth should not be denied the benefit of scouting," he wrote. "The resolution is not about adults; it is about what is best for young people."

Voters will make a decision on Thursday.

The African Union , a continent-wide organization created to fight colonialism, is celebrating its' 50th anniversary this week.

African leaders are pleased with the Union's accomplishments and are ready to set more goals for the growing continent.

"If you look at the last 10 years, Africa has been growing economically," said Union Chair Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma. "There has been quite a lot of development even in terms of infrastructure, not enough yet, but countries have been working hard."

The week-long celebration will end on Saturday in Ethiopia with visits from foreign leaders, including U.S Secretary of State John Kerry.
