Oprah Winfrey Network to premiere 'Dark Girls'



The Oprah Winfrey Network is scheduled to premiere 'Dark Girls'.

Here's the synopsis :
Dark Girls is a fascinating and controversial documentary film that goes underneath the surface to explore the prejudices that dark-skinned women face throughout the world. It explores the roots of classism, racism and the lack of self-esteem within a segment of cultures that span from America to the most remote corners of the globe. Women share their personal stories, touching on deeply ingrained beliefs and attitudes of society, while allowing generations to heal as they lean to love themselves for who they are.
'Dark Girls' premieres Sunday, June 23 on OWN.

Oprah Winfrey donates $12 million to African American Museum



Oprah Winfrey will donate $12 million to the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

The museum will showcase the history of African Americans from slavery to the 21st century.

Oprah has been involved with the project since joining its' advisory council in 2004.

"I am deeply appreciative of those who paved the path for me and all who follow in those footsteps. By investing in this museum, I want to help ensure that we both honor and preserve out culture and history, so that the stories of who we are will live on for generations to come," Winfrey said.

A 350 seat theater will be named after the legendary talk show host in honor of her generous donation.

The museum is scheduled to open in 2015.

Oprah Gives Harvard Commencement Speech


Oprah Winfrey gave an inspiring commencement at Harvard University on Friday. 

"Oh my goodness. I'm at HAAAVARD," she said. "Not too many girls from Rural Mississippi have made it all the way here to Cambridge... I consider today to be a defining milestone..."

The legendary talk show host, who received an honorary degree from the prestigious university, spoke about her first year at OWN and encouraged graduates to keep going. 

"It doesn't matter how far you might rise because at some point you might stumble... And when you (fall), there is no such thing as failure. Failure is just life trying to move us in another direction. When you're down in the hole, it might look like failure...Give yourself time to mourn what you think you might have lost. Then, here's the key: Learn from every mistake. Each mistake will force you to learn who you really are... And then figure out you're next move. "

Lenny Kravitz to be featured on 'Oprah's Master Class'




Lenny Kravitz will be featured on 'Oprah's Master Class' this Sunday.

The Grammy award-winning artist will talk about his mixed heritage, his unconventional image, and his  former marriage to 'Cosby show' alum, Lisa Bonet.

Maya Angelou to join Oprah for OWN's 'Super Soul Sunday'


Legendary poet Maya Angelou will sit down with Oprah for OWN's 'Super Soul Sunday' this week.

The 85 year old literary spoke about her two greatest blessings in the interview.

"My greatest blessing has been my son," she said. "My next greatest blessing has been my ability to turn people into children of mine."

Oprah praised Angelou for her maternal ability, claiming to be the literary legend's most special child.

"Do you know what your most greatest gift to me is?" she asked. "[It's] that everyone of us who considers ourselves to be your daughter or your sons -- everyone of us thinks we're the most special. I think this is the mark of a great mother, to make everyone feel like their the special one."

Lance Armstrong apologizes to LiveStrong



Lance Armstrong apologized to his charity, Livestrong, on Monday.

Armstrong and his charity were thrown into controversy after the U.S Anti-Doping Agency found evidence of the seven time Tour De France winner's wrongdoing.

Armstrong cut ties with Livestrong, a charity he founded for cancer awareness,  in October.

He is scheduled to interview with Oprah on Monday. The interview will air on Thursday.

Update - Armstrong has reportedly confessed to Oprah about using performance-enhancing drugs to win the Tour De France.

Oprah Winfrey gives Spelman commencement

Entertainment icon Oprah Winfrey delivered an unforgettable commencement to 550 Spelman graduates, urging them to remember their ancestors' hard work and how it paved the way for their success.

"Never forget that you did not do this by yourself," she said. "You came here today trailing the breath of the ancestors and angels."
