Legendary Physician Dr. Walter Lomax Jr. died on October 10 after a sudden stroke.

Lomax practiced medicine in South Philadelphia for over 30 years and was a leading figure in the African American community.

"He recognized that in the Black community in particular there was not a lot of high quality care. He able to create a model where he brought all these qualified physicians to low income communities and provided access to quality healthcare, "  his daughter Sara Lomax- Reese said.

"He was a phenomenal physician and a gifted healer [and] his legacy was his ability to translate all of his gifts as a healer into the business would." Lomax-Reese added. "He had the vision to see the healing side of medicine but also the business side and to balance them both."

Lomax was 81.

Oprah Winfrey will donate $12 million to the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

The museum will showcase the history of African Americans from slavery to the 21st century.

Oprah has been involved with the project since joining its' advisory council in 2004.

"I am deeply appreciative of those who paved the path for me and all who follow in those footsteps. By investing in this museum, I want to help ensure that we both honor and preserve out culture and history, so that the stories of who we are will live on for generations to come," Winfrey said.

A 350 seat theater will be named after the legendary talk show host in honor of her generous donation.

The museum is scheduled to open in 2015.

The NAACP celebrated Black excellence with the NAACP Image Awards on Friday.

The show, hosted by Steve Harvey, featured Black culture's best in television, music, film, and philanthropy. 

Kerry Washington, Harry Belafonte, and Jamie Foxx were the talk of the night after giving speeches that blew the audience away. 

Kerry Washington won several awards for her roles in 'Django Unchained,' and 'Scandal.'

Washington won the NAACP's President Award for public service. 

During her acceptance speech, she said : 

"Just as we must insure that 'We the People' includes all Americans regardless of race, class, gender, and sexual orientation; we must also work to make sure that the stories we tell, the movies we make, the television we produce, the theatre we stage, the novels we publish are inclusive in all those ways."

Later, Harry Belafonte was given the Spingarn Honorary Medal by his friend, Sidney Poitier. 

Belafonte spoke about gun control in the Black community during his speech. 

"The group most devasted by America's obsession with the gun is African Americans," he said. "Where is the raised voice of Black America? Why are we mute?"

Jamie Fox won the final award of the night, Entertainer of the Year, and concluded by saying : 

"I'm so humbled tonight...I had so many things I wanted to say, but after watching and listening to Harry Belafonte speak, sometimes I feel like a failed a little bit in being caught up in what I do. I guarantee you, I'm gonna work a lot harder."
