Oprah Winfrey donates $12 million to African American Museum



Oprah Winfrey will donate $12 million to the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

The museum will showcase the history of African Americans from slavery to the 21st century.

Oprah has been involved with the project since joining its' advisory council in 2004.

"I am deeply appreciative of those who paved the path for me and all who follow in those footsteps. By investing in this museum, I want to help ensure that we both honor and preserve out culture and history, so that the stories of who we are will live on for generations to come," Winfrey said.

A 350 seat theater will be named after the legendary talk show host in honor of her generous donation.

The museum is scheduled to open in 2015.

Famed Nigerian Author Chinua Achebe has died


African novelist Chinua Achebe died on Thursday.

Achebe is known for the breathtaking novels and essays that he wrote about his native country, Nigeria.

His debut publication, "Things Fall Apart," has sold over 10 million copies to date and been translated into more than 40 languages.

The novel focused on the Igbo people in Nigeria and their turbulent history with the British government.

Despite moving to the United States, Achebe continued to focus on the plight of Nigeria.

The author responded to critics who asked why he never wrote about America in his novel, "Home and Exile."

He said ,"America has enough novels about her, and Nigeria too few."

He was 82.
