Famed Nigerian Author Chinua Achebe has died

African novelist Chinua Achebe died on Thursday.

Achebe is known for the breathtaking novels and essays that he wrote about his native country, Nigeria.

His debut publication, "Things Fall Apart," has sold over 10 million copies to date and been translated into more than 40 languages.

The novel focused on the Igbo people in Nigeria and their turbulent history with the British government.

Despite moving to the United States, Achebe continued to focus on the plight of Nigeria.

The author responded to critics who asked why he never wrote about America in his novel, "Home and Exile."

He said ,"America has enough novels about her, and Nigeria too few."

He was 82.
