amFAR Gala starts off NYC Fashion Week


New York Fashion week kicks off on Wednesday with the amFAR Gala.

The black-tie event is held every year on the eve of fashion week in honor of individuals who have contributed to the fight against AIDS.

This years' honorees include: Heidi Klum, Janet Jackson, and Kenneth Cole.

The gala, which had its' show in 1998, has raised over $10 million to date.

IMG picks up Toronto Fashion Week



IMG Canada became the new owners of Toronto Fashion Week on Thursday.

The event's executive director Robin Kay will also be stepping down.

"Fashion Week is much bigger than me as an individual person," she said. "I really believe that this is the best next step on the runway for the event, for the City of Toronto, and for our market as Canadians on the global runway."

Kay will continue in her position as President of the Fashion Design Council of Canada.

Toronto Fashion Week will go down in David Pecaut  Square from October 22-26.

Bikinis take over Rio Fashion Week

If you're looking for a beautiful bikini, then Rio is the place to be.

Brazil's second largest city opened its' Fashion week with beautiful bikinis from Brazil's finest designers.

Designers Triya, Cia Maritima, Blue Man, Lenny, and Auslander all contributed to the beautiful bikini showcase.

Soweto gets first fashion week



Soweto, a township in Johannesburg, opened its' first fashion week on Thursday.

Fashion designers in Soweto are excited to finally have their own space.

"Creatives from Soweto do need their own platform," said fashion blogger Mahlatse James. "If the other fashion platforms can not afford that, they have to create their own."

Stephen Manzini, organizer of Soweto Fashion Week, held rehearsals in the parking lot of a friend's apartment.

"We refused to be stopped because we don't have funding," he said, after raising 60,000 rand from sponsors for the event.

Valencia Mache, a Soweto legal advisor who attended the event, said, "Even if there is no opportunity, make an opportunity."
