NBC News President Steve Capus steps down

NBC News President Steve Capus resigned on Friday.

Capus worked as President for 8 years, but lost control after the 'Today' show lost its' 16 year rating victory to 'GMA'.

"It's been a privilege to have spent two decades here, but it is now time to head in a new direction." I have informed Pat Fili Krushel (chairman of NBC Universal News Group) that I will be leaving NBC News in the coming weeks." he wrote in a letter to NBC staff. " It is impossible to fully express how much I respect the people of NBC News. To call everyone 'colleagues' has been a true honor... but to call so many of you dear friends has been a true gift. Thank you for everything. I could not be prouder of what we have accomplished together."

No word on who will replace Capus after he leaves NBC.

Savannah Guthrie replaces Ann Curry on 'Today'

Savannah Guthrie has taken Ann Curry's spot on the 'Today' show.

Guthrie worked as a co-host on Friday, but NBC did not make it official until after the telecast.

"She's got an undeniable range, and she's earned the trust of the news community, her colleagues and our viewers alike. I couldn't be happier for Savannah and the 'Today' Team," said NBC News President Steve Capus.

Guthrie replaced Curry after rumors surfaced that NBC was upset with fallen ratings.

Curry is expected to return as an international correspondent in July.

Ann Curry says goodbye to 'Today'

Ann Curry gave a tearful goodbye to the 'Today' Show and its' viewers on Thursday.

"For all of you who saw me as a ground breaker, I am sorry I could not carry the ball across the finish line. But man did I try," she said.

Curry will work with NBC News as an international correspondent and make frequent appearances on 'Today.'

Rumors of her departure have been circulating as NBC scrambles to improve fallen ratings.

NBC has not announced a replacement for Curry.

Ann Curry to be replaced on 'Today' show

According to reports, NBC is planning to replace Ann Curry on the 'Today' show.

Curry worked with the show as a newscaster for 14 years before replacing Meredith Viera as a co-host in June of last year.

Since her arrival, the 'Today' show has struggled to keep up with its' network rival, ABC.

"The first thing you do is look at what's changed, what are the variables," said Robert Thompson, founding director of Syracuse's university of Bleil Center for Television and Popular Culture. "Ann Curry as a co-host is one of the variables."

NBC officials were reportedly looking for someone to fill in for Curry today, but she showed up for work like nothing happened.

A source close to Curry told media, "She got her dream job and she does not want to let it go."

She is expected to be replaced before the 2012 Olympic Games in July.
