Obama's stance on gay marriage leads to huge donations

After President Obama announced his support of gay marriage, his campaign received a huge amount of donations.

Officials refused to give an actual monetary amount on donations, but it is rumored that the campaign garnered $1 million within 90 minutes of his announcement.

Many gay rights supporters have expressed support for Obama's decision.

Dana Perlman, a lawyer, said, "This man has come out 100 percent for our community , and each and every member of the community must now step up and do everything he or she can do to see that he is reelected."

"I've just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married," he said.

His announcement comes after North Carolina voters decided to pass a constitutional ban on gay marriage.

The full interview will air on "Good Morning America" on Thursday.

North Carolina votes on Gay Marriage

North Carolina voters decided if they wanted to lift the constitutional ban on gay marriage on Tuesday.

Leaders in the community have stepped forward, showing support for both sides of the national debate.

President Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton released statements urging voters to reject the amendment.

Rev. Billy Graham, a noted evangelist from North Carolina, has been featured in newspaper ads favoring the amendment.

If North Carolina votes in favor of the constitutional ban, it will become the 29th state to define marriage as an institution between a man and a woman.
