Burma's opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi will be visiting the US in September.

During her visit, she will meet with government officials and receive awards from the US Congress and the Atlantic Council think tank.

Patrick Ventrell, a US State Department spokesperson, told media : "We look forward to an appropriate date welcoming Aung San Suu Kyi here to the State Department and her having bilateral meetings in the US."

Suu Kyi spent over 20 years on house arrest before being released in 2010.

She made her debut in the Myanmar Parliament after a 2 week European tour.

Aung San Suu Kyi attended the Myanmar Parliament as a lawmaker on Monday.

The opposition leader was surrounded by reporters as she made her way into the assembly.

Suu Kyi took office in May after Thein Sein, Myanmar's current president, agreed to reconcile.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner recently completed a European tour after being under house arrest for two decades.

She told AFP, "I will try the best for my country."

Aung San Suu Kyi, a female civil rights leader who spent over 20 years in exile, has arrived in Switzerland.

She will begin her 17 day tour in Geneva to address the United Nations International Labor Organisation.

The Burman activist is also expected to accept a Nobel Peace Prize that was awarded to her 21 years ago in Norway.

On Monday, Amnesty International will hold a tribute concert for her in Dublin where she will be given the Ambassador of Conscience Award.

She will spend her 67th birthday in Britain and will receive an honorary doctorate from Oxford.

Her last stop will be in France where she will meet President Francois Hollande.

Aung San Suu Kyi has spent the last 20 years fighting for democracy in a corrupt Myanmar.

Amnesty International will hold a concert tribute for Nobel Peace Winner Aung San Suu Kyi in Dublin.

Concert Organizer Bill Shipley said, "Her courage and leadership have been a source of inspiration not only to people in Ireland but all those who value democracy, freedom of speech and an end to military rule."

The concert, Electric Burma, will feature big time artists, like Lupe Fiasco, Jack Gleeson, and Riverdance.

The legendary Bono will present the Ambassador of Conscience Award to Kyi on June 18.
