The Supreme Court made a decision on the controversial 2010 Arizona law on Monday.

The court's decision put an end to provisions that would have penalized illegal immigrants seeking work, but upheld a controversial provision some call, 'show me your papers'.

The provision gives police officers permission to ask for proof of immigration status  for a person under arrest if there are suspicions the person may be in the country illegally.

Many believe that the standing provision will lead to racial profiling in their community; others believe that it is a states' right to defend themselves from problems caused by illegal immigration.

Justice Anthony M. Kennedy said, "Arizona may have understandable frustrations with the problems caused by illegal immigration while that process continues, but the state may not pursue policies that undermine federal law."

President Obama enacted a new immigration policy on Friday that will halt the deportation of young immigrants.

The policy applies to people who are 30 or younger, who moved to the country before they turned 16, and lived in the U.S. for at least 5 years.

Eligible immigrants will be given the ability to apply for ,"deferred action" which will allow them to avoid deportation for 2 years.

They can also apply for work permits.

Maria Praeli, a 19 year old, said,"I can finally drive and not have to worry about the police. I can finally have a work permit and not just to make money but to pursue a career."
