Prosecutors seek Death Penalty for James Holmes

James Holmes, the lone shooter who killed 12 people inside a Colorado theater, may be facing the death penalty.

District Attorney George Brauchler announced the decision.

"For James Eagen Holmes, justice is death," he said.

Prosecutors rejected a plea offer from Holmes' lawyer last week that would have allowed Holmes to plead guilty in exchange for life in prison without parole.

"They are trying to execute our client, and we will do what we need to do to save his life," said Holmes' defendant Tamara Brady.

Holmes' case is expected to go to trial in February of 2014.
