Civil Rights Icon Rodney King died

Rodney King, the man whose beating by Los Angeles Police was caught on tape in 1991, died on Sunday.

King, who suffered from drug abuse and was arrested multiple times in his life, was found dead in a swimming pool at his home in Rialto, California.

He made the news in 1991 after a video surfaced showing him being brutally beaten by Los Angeles Police.

After the police officers involved were acquitted, he became the face of police brutality and sometimes he just could not handle it.

"People look at me like I should have been like Malcolm X or Martin Luther King or Rosa Parks," he said. "I should have seen life like that and stayed out of trouble , and don't do this and don't do that. But it's hard to live up to some people's expectations."

He was 47.
