Ex-Rutgers student gets 30 days in jail



Dharun Ravi, a former Rutgers student who used a web cam to spy on his gay roommate was sentenced on Monday.

The maximum sentence was 10 years , but Ravi walked away with 30 days in jail and 3 years probation.

In September of 2010, Ravi spied on his roommate, Tyler Clementi, who was kissing another man.

Clementi,18, committed suicide a few days later after updating his Facebook status.

"Jumping off the gw bridge, sorry," he said.

Sabitha Ravi, Ravi's mother, gave an emotional plea in court, saying  "Dharun's dreams are shattered and he has been living in hell for the past 20 months."

Prosecutors are expected to appeal the sentence.
