College Fraternity sparks outrage with Blackface video
A fraternity at the University of California, Irvine sparked outrage after releasing a video featuring one of its members in Blackface.
The fraternity members of Lambda Theta Delta created the video featuring Justin Timberlake's "Suit and Tie" to promote an upcoming event.
During the video, a member appears in Blackface to play the role of Rapper Jay-Z.
Blackface, a theatrical make up used to stereotype and exploit African Americans, is an awful reminder of America's turbulent history.
The fraternity later removed the video and issued an apology on Facebook.
"Lambda Theta Delta sincerely apologizes for the extremely racist content of the 'Suit and Tie' video. The use of Blackface in the video is incredible offensive as well as insensitive. This behaviour is simply unacceptable and the individuals responsible for the video have already been reprimanded."
School administrators are investigating the incident.
