Mariah Carey to become 2012 'BMI Icon'

Mariah Carey will be named the 2012 ' BMI Icon' on September 7.

The BMI Urban Awards names a 'BMI Icon' each year for their "unique and indeliable influence on generations of music makers."

Previous icons include The Jacksons, Dolly Parton, and Little Richard.

Carey is one of the best-selling artists of all time and is tied with Elvis Presley for her Billboard No. 1 hits.

The awards show will be held at the Saban Theatre.
