Country music legend Kitty Wells dies
Country music legend Kitty Wells died on Thursday.
Wells took country music by storm when she released the 1952 song, "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels."
The controversial response to Hank Thompson's "The Wild Side of Life" put the then 33-year-old singer above the rest.
"Other female singers of her day were trying their hands at hard-living, honky-tonk songs, but it was the intense and piercing style of Kitty Wells, with her gospel-touched vocals and tearful restraint that resonated with country audiences of the time and broke the industry barriers for women," said the Hall of Fame's biography.
A family member of Wells announced that she died from complications of stroke.
She was 92.
